Launched in February 2008, the new Enterprise Europe Network, is a very important European Commission initiative, aimed at assisting SMEs in developing their innovation capacities. Offering high quality services, the Network’s main purpose is to help increase the companies’ competitiveness. The Network has, first of all, the quality to bring together for the first time two dimensions: regions and innovation.
This initiative is like a two way street. In one way the Network helps SMEs and in the other way serves as a mean to inform the European Commission about the entrepreneurs’ points of view, experiences and observations. This a valuable contribution to the policy making process, so it can respond as well as possible to the needs of the SMEs.
Companies must make the most of this opportunity offered by the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Galati, as member of the Network, in order to build a future together.
Practically combining the resources of two former networks, Euro Info Centre and Innovation Relay Centers, the new Enterprise Europe Network changes its approach into an integrated one, giving priority to SMEs and their involvement concerning community policies – the extent to which European legislation responds to the needs of the SMEs. The  new network, administered by the Directorate General Enterprise and Industry of the European Commission, sets the premises for a unique contact point for business and innovation consultancy and assistance. The role of controlling and evaluating the Network’s activities belongs to the Executive Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation (EACI). The Network’s background is the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme 2007-2013.
The Network is made up of 600 hundred organizations, including chambers of commerce, regional development agencies, universities and professionals; it has offices in around 40 European countries, working for outcomes like: 50,000 technological audits, 1,000 documentations for technological audits, organizing 4,000 local events and workshops on subjects related to SMEs.
The Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Galati is a partner in this network after participating in a bid organized by the European Commission in 2007, and continuing now the activities of the former Euro Info Centre, to which new services have been added: assistance and consultancy for innovation, innovation and/or technology for (innovative) SMEs.
As part of the Enterprise Europe Network, in Romania there are four multiregional consortia. For the North- East South-East development region (Macro region 2) the Network’s services are supplied by the ERSBN (Eastern Romanian Business Support Network), made up of the following partners: Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Navigation and Agriculture of Constanta, Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Galati, Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Bacau, Tehnopolis – Iasi and IPA S.A. – Galati branch.
